Attree Update

Last round of the regular season for both of our two day sides and first grade were hosting Bicton Attadale at the home of cricket. Losing the toss they found themselves bowling, hardly surprising given the weather was extremely hot. We struck a breakthrough with the score on 18 and then didn’t get another one until 71, but after that the wickets flowed at a steady rate and we ended up bowling the visitors out for 166 in the 72nd over. Big Jenks with a work horse effort to finish with a “Michelle” 5/59 off 31.2 overs if you don’t mind. A power of work in the stifling conditions Zanno also putting in a big effort to bowl 21 overs and claim 4/65 himself. Great effort for those two bowlers which has put us in a good position after the close of play on day one.

Fourth grade were also hosting this time playing at Hume Rd A against Piara Waters. Winning the toss and deciding to bat our boys struggled to hold out the Piara bowlers with only Aubz opening the batting hitting a nice 42 and Scotty Cooper making 29 having any joy with the bat. We were unfortunately bowled out for 97 in the 38th over. Piara went into bat and finished the day on 4/90 with Scoops picking up 2/12 so far. Another days play left in this game so who knows what may happen next week as our fourth grade round out a tough season.

One Day A headed to Mills Park to take on Kenwick in a crucial game to shape the final four. Our boys were sent in by the Wicks and compiled 6/145 on the slow ground. Smithy slipping back into one day cricket opened the batting and scored 27 and the Whiteman managed 20. Special mention to Aiden Davies playing his first senior game for Thornlie who remained unbeaten on 19 after coming in at number 4. Kenwick’s turn with the bat and they were never in the hunt losing early wickets thanks mainly to our opening bowlers Baylo in a rich vein of form claiming 4/12 off his 8 and Riggy claiming 3/15 off his allotted overs. Skipper Jacko came on later to clean up the tail and grab 2/3 and Kenwick were back in the sheds for a lowly 88. Fantastic win by the A’s who have now jumped Kenwick on the ladder and moved into 3rd.

The D train were at Hume Rd A taking on South Bertram and amazingly managed to bat first for a change. A good opening stand by Calvin and Mike Irwin who both made 26 got us going, young Mitchy finished unbeaten on 20 and Urby hit a fine 44 which included 3 sixes. We finished on 7/169 and it was more than enough as we rolled the visitors for 67 in the 21st over. Jedi (use the force) grabbing his own Michelle with 5/30 off 5.2 and Davros also bowling extremely well picking up 4/6 off 5 overs. Comprehensive win by the boys who have now locked up top spot with one game remaining.

The G bangers travelled down to Cockburn in another match which will shape the top four. Bowling first managed to skittle Cockburn for 124. Kev Attree claiming 3/23, Colby Shokker 2/7 and skipper Holmsey also grabbing 2/40. In reply our boys gave Cockburn a batting lesson where we finished on 7/250. A good opening stand of 52 between Jay Z (41) and Sniffy (29) before Holmsey came in at 3 and belted a fine 64, Kev Attree at it again with another 25 and Blake Fletcher finished not out on 20. Fantastic win by the lads who have secured 2nd spot as well with one game remaining.
